So long, minimalism — bright and bold colors are here to stay. According to Houzz, this can partially be attributed to the pandemic, as people found ways to incorporate extra pops of brightness into their spaces.

The company also reports that wallpaper has played a big role in this trend, as many homeowners have used eclectic patterns and warm colors to add personality to their homes. Plus, the rise of peel-and-stick wallpaper means that these changes don’t have to be permanent! In 2022, Houzz found that searches were up for “paintable wallpaper” (93%), “chinoiserie wallpaper” (71%), and floral wallpaper (52%).

Connections to the Outdoors

Feeling close to nature remains a big priority for homeowners, with 20% of people making their kitchens more open to the outdoors post-renovation. Sliding glass doors that open to outdoor spaces are particularly popular, but there are other affordable ways to bring a bit of the outdoors into your home, such as adding large windows and incorporating natural materials and prints that recall nature.

Although all-white bathroom finishes still dominate Houzz search trends, more and more people are opting for contrasting colors in their bathrooms. Navy blue vanities have become particularly on trend — according to Houzz’s 2022 U.S. Bathroom Trends Study, 7% of homeowners are installing blue vanities. Black and white contrasting colors have also grown in popularity. Meanwhile, brass details and wood-look tile flooring add warmth to these palettes.

Other trends that are set to be popular in 2023 include curbless showers, modern rustic living rooms, and creative island seating.
