Kitchen design trends for 2022

With winter almost behind us and the sunlight starts to streams into our homes, our thoughts turn to our interiors as we give the place a spring clean.

If a new kitchen is top of your agenda for 2022 or you simply want to give an older kitchen an upgrade, we have some great tips and trends to share with you.

Budget
The first thing you need to do is to work out your budget so you are clear in your mind about whether you are in the market for a brand-new kitchen or simply want to give an older kitchen an upgrade by repainting or replacing kitchen cupboards and fittings.

Your best course of action is to consult an expert who can guide you through the different processes in line with what you have to spend. Many places offer free design consultations, you can drop in to book an appointment in one of their 18 kitchen showrooms around the country.

Research
Do your research first so you can identify what the most important things are that you would like for you and/or your family; is it an island storage, what colour and finish? Go online or visit the many kitchen suppliers around the country for inspiration.

Size
Plan and measure your space. It’s really important that you know the size of your kitchen. Measure up, before meeting with your design consultant, ensuring you include all room features – windows, doors etc – including the sink and waste location, as well as all sockets as this will affect where appliances can be located and save additional expense later if you have to move services.

The best practice is to measure all aspects of the room in centimetres. It is also a good idea to take pictures of your existing space to show to your consultant. If you are moving into a new build, don’t rely on drawings. Get in there and measure it yourself.

Colour trends
Colour trends that are in demand for this year are grey, blue, greens, ivory and anthracite tones. Elements which make your space more social, such as islands and breakfast areas, have become ‘must haves’ in recent years.

Shaker door style
Also popular for 2022 are shaker and handless door style, balancing classic and contemporary touches offering timeless design.

Black and basin
Brass handles and black taps add a contemporary pop to the finishing touches of a kitchen, are proving a big trend in kitchen design 2022.

Smart storage
Whilst smart storage features remain a favourite with customers, with door hung internal spice racks or hidden larder units to keep surfaces neat and tidy and create a streamlined space, additional storage such as pull-out drawers and baskets, or a larder or pantry are also popular as they provide more storage solutions and extra space.

Even after a kitchen is installed, customers may wish to improve their layout and storage, and this can be done by designing larder or pantry units.

Minimalism
Minimalism is also big this season, crisp white high gloss and handless doors with stone work tops, offers the sleek slick desired look.

Worktops
The kitchen worktop is one of the most hardwearing areas in the kitchen.

Quartz worktops – renowned for their quality and aesthetic appeal are proving exceptionally popular this year complimented by a quartz splashback or upstand for an even more contemporary look.

If budgets don’t stretch to quartz or stone, laminate worktops are an option and are always a surface you can count on, they are competitively priced and offer a huge range of colours including wood and granite effect.

Paint it your way
Also on trend is the ‘Paint it Your Way’ range of kitchens which allows shoppers to embrace more colour, offering over 20 different shades. In line with other interior trends, blues and greens are hugely popular with the richer hues becoming the quickest growing trend.
