For many families, the ability to work from home is now a priority for at least one of its members. This emphasizes the need to find areas within the home in which to be productive.

One or more people with laptops and documents on the kitchen table or coffee table in the great room, in most cases, does not cut it. Many activities, such as Zoom calls, require a space of one’s own.

This is one of the reasons house hunters are drawn to the Cruz 20. This 1,611-square-foot laned model by Jayman Built is displayed as a show home in the south Calgary community of Wolf Willow, which is near Fish Creek Provincial Park.

Conveniently positioned just off the foyer is a multi-functional den. This six-foot nine inch by five-foot seven inch space is fully enclosed on three sides and has a stubwall on the fourth.

On a wall it shares with the dining area, there’s a transom window that helps pull in additional natural light.

In the show home, the den is staged with a large desk and chair, demonstrating its ability to fulfil one’s work-from-home needs.

Its location, a few steps from the front door, is handy for picking up work-related deliveries. The front door has a narrow and vertical off-centre glass insert.

In the back stretch of the open-concept main level, every room feels spacious. This is, in part, due to the staircase to the second floor being positioned just off the foyer rather than sharing square footage with the kitchen or great room.

Providing an eye-catching focal point in the rear-facing great room is an elongated electric fireplace surrounded in tile.

The central kitchen is well-suited for people with extensive collections of pots, pans and other cookware. In addition to its well-sized walk-in pantry is a large collection of maple cabinets with soft-close doors and drawers.

There’s an island with an extended eating bar that seats at least three people and a sink that faces the dining area. This lets the domestic chef remain within earshot and maintain eye contact with guests sitting at the table while plating their meals.

The stainless steel appliances presented in the show home include a fridge with french doors and chimney-style hoodfan.

People who enter from the back of the home have an abundance of space to remove jackets and footwear. Its direct access to the kitchen creates a quick path for people hauling in bags of groceries from their vehicle on the parking pad or in the optional detached garage.

The main floor is covered in a striking and durable luxury vinyl plank.

Windows over both the landing and at the top of the stairs to the second level make this space exceptionally bright.

The 10-foot nine-inch by 14-foot master sits at the front of the second level and adjacent secondary bedrooms are along the back wall.

Designed to fit the needs of growing families, all bedrooms have a walk-in closet. The master boasts an ensuite with a shower, as well.

The second level includes a central laundry area with a front-load washer and dryer.

In the show home, the basement is presented with opportunities for evening enjoyment. There’s a walk-up bar, wine storage and tasting room, and space to practice one’s short game with an indoor putting green.
